There can be additional costs associated with hiring skips but these can be accounted for with pre-planning. These are:
Skip permits & parking suspensions - if your skip needs to be placed on the road you will require a skip permit and if you intend to use a permit or paid parking space, you will also require a parking suspension.
Prohibited items - hazardous waste streams must not be disposed of in a skip and will incur a substantial additional cost. These include, but are not exclusive to, fridges, monitors and paint.
Overloading - by legal requirement, the load must be safe to transport. If you exceed above the level line or weight restrictions, you could incur a cost for a wasted journey.
Wasted journeys - these can occur because of failed collection or delivery. Ensure there are no obstacles for both skip drop-off and collection.
Typically, the larger the skip, the lower the cost per cubic yard or metre. A considerable part of skip hire costs is the HGV delivery. However, this doesn’t increase significantly along with the size of the skip. Therefore, hiring a larger skip makes more sense financially.
