Generally, if you do not have the space on your property and your skip has to be positioned on the public highway as a result, you will need a skip permit in Cambridge.

Cambridge skip hire FAQs

When selecting a skip there are some things to consider, including what skip size and type is the most suitable, and where you plan to place it.

We have detailed the main skips with our FAQ section, but we can hire specialist skips on request.

View all FAQs

The ‘Midi’ skip is the smallest skip available at 4 cubic yards in size. ‘Builders’ skips are available at either 6 or 8 cubic yards, whilst ‘Maxi’ and extra-large skips are either 10 or 12 cubic yards.

The largest skips available are specialist hires which include lockable skips, enclosed skips and Roll On, Roll Off (RORO) containers. These are costed with a transport and tonnage rate in mind at the point of ordering.

Clearabee’s skip hire period is 14 days but if you want to hire a skip for longer, you should make us aware so arrangements can be made and charges can be processed. If you require a shorter skip hire period, you can designate a day for collection when you place your order.

There can be some additional costs associated with skips but these can be accounted for with pre-planning. These are:

Skip permits & parking suspensions - if your skip needs to be placed on the road you will require a skip permit and if you intend to use a parking space that requires a permit or paid parking, you will also require a parking suspension in addition.

Prohibited items - hazardous waste streams must not be disposed of in a skip and will incur a substantial additional cost. These include, but are not exclusive to, fridges, TV’s and chemicals.

Overloading - the load must be safe to transport by legal requirement. If you exceed above the level line or weight restrictions, you could be charged extra for a wasted journey.

Wasted journeys - these can occur because of failed collection or delivery. Please make sure that there is easy access to the skip for both drop-off and collection.

If you need to place your skip on the road, then you are going to need a skip permit. The costs vary depending on your local authority but Clearabee can apply for a skip permit on your behalf and include the additional cost along with your order.

If you don’t have the space on your property you can place your skip in a permit-only or Pay and Display parking space, but you will require a parking suspension.

These suspensions are usually charged on a day-by-day basis by your local authority but Clearabee can apply for your permit and include the cost in your order.
