FAQs

Aberdeen skip hire FAQs

There are various considerations when choosing a skip which will impact what skip size and type is the most suitable, such as where you plan to place it and what you plan to dispose of with it.

We have discussed the main skips with our frequently asked questions section, but we can hire out almost any type of skip.

View all FAQs

The following are our most popular every day skips. These are:

The ‘Midi Skip’ - 4 cubic yards
Perfect for modest home, garden and construction projects, these skips are suitable for heavy and dense waste such as bricks, rubble and soil.

The ‘Builder’s Skip - 6 and 8 cubic yards
The 6-yard skip is the most popular skip and the one most likely to be seen on a driveway. These skips are suitable for heavy and dense waste as well as bulky waste.

‘Maxi’ and ‘XL’ skips - 10 and 12 cubic yards
These skips are perfect for large projects such as a house or office clearance. These are not suitable for heavy and dense waste but are great for bulky waste and light installation waste.

As a general rule, the larger the skip, the lower the cost per cubic yard or metre. Skips are delivered by large HGV’s which are a substantial part of the cost, but delivering and collecting a larger skip doesn’t significantly increase the transport cost so hiring a larger skip makes sense.

Hiring a skip with us is simple. Our contact centre is open 7 days a week and you can book online 24/7 using our hassle-free booking system. Most standard skips are available online with real-time pricing. If you have a specialist skip requirement instead, we may need a couple of hours to provide a bespoke quote.

If your skip will be situated on a public highway, you are going to need a skip permit. These permits are issued by your local council and the costs vary from area to area. In most cases, we can apply for a skip permit on your behalf and pass on the additional cost alongside your order.

If your skip is due to be placed in a permit-only or Pay and Display parking space, you will require a parking suspension in addition to a skip permit.

Parking suspensions are usually charged on a day-by-day basis and require the local authority to place a notice to suspend the parking space and this service has a considerable impact on the cost.

What is a Midi Skip?

A midi skip is a smaller variant of skip, it’s smaller size means they’re easier to handle to cheaper to hire. The most common size of skip tends to be the 8-yard skip, while midi skips hold a capacity of 4 cubic yards. Midi skips tend to be best suited for clear-outs after the renovation of a single room. They are ideal for kitchen and bathroom refurbs. For a clearance of an entire home, you would probably have to look at a skip with a larger capacity. Something like an 8 or a 12-yard skip possibly, that’s of course if you plan to do all the heavy lifting and fill the skip yourself. If you would like an extra pair of hands or two then our reliable and speedy ‘Man and Van’ service might be just what you’re looking for.
