St Helens skip permits

For skip hire services in St Helens and Merseyside, you should consider whether or not you’ll need to apply for a skip permit.

In any eventuality, we can advise the additional requirements of your skip hire before applying for the permit on your behalf.

St Helens parking suspensions

The town of St Helens depends heavily on skip hiring services for clearing construction sites, homes extensions and office refurbishments. Not every household has space for a skip though, especially those in more built-up areas. A parking suspension means you can use a skip without requiring your own drive or front yard.

FAQs

St Helens skip hire FAQs

When hiring a skip, there are some things that you should consider, including which skip is the most suitable for you, where you plan to put it and what you plan to dispose of.

We have discussed the main skips in our FAQ section, but we can hire out almost any sort of skip if required.

The 4-yard ‘Midi’ skip is the smallest skip that is usually available. However, if you need a larger container, we also have 6 - 8 cubic yard ‘Builders’ skips available, as well as 10 - 12 yards ‘Maxi’ skips and commercial containers.

Skip permits are issued by St Helens Council and you will need one for your clearance if you are intending to place your skip on the public highway. Clearabee can apply for a skip permit on your behalf and embed the cost in your order.

If you are struggling for space and need to place your skip in a permit-only or Pay and Display parking space, you will need a parking suspension as well as a skip permit. These suspensions are charged on a day-by-day basis and require the council to place a notice to suspend the parking space.

Standard garden and construction waste streams are both suitable for a skip, although you must make sure the weight of bricks, rubble and soil does not exceed restrictions. Standard household items and bulky and business waste can all be thrown into a skip.

There are several waste streams that cannot be removed by a skip without previous agreement with Clearabee:

Hazardous waste streams including laptops, monitors and TV’s

Solvents, chemicals and paints

Food waste

Plasterboard and gypsum waste

White goods and large WEEE items

What is a Midi Skip?

A midi skip is a smaller variant of skip, it’s smaller size means they’re easier to handle to cheaper to hire. The most common size of skip tends to be the 8-yard skip, while midi skips hold a capacity of 4 cubic yards. Midi skips tend to be best suited for clear-outs after the renovation of a single room. They are ideal for kitchen and bathroom refurbs. For a clearance of an entire home, you would probably have to look at a skip with a larger capacity. Something like an 8 or a 12-yard skip possibly, that’s of course if you plan to do all the heavy lifting and fill the skip yourself. If you would like an extra pair of hands or two then our reliable and speedy ‘Man and Van’ service might be just what you’re looking for.
