For any other questions you may have, we have a full skip hire FAQ page.

Skip Hire FAQs

If you are mindful of the restrictions around skip hire, as well as the terms and conditions of your own skip hire, then there should be no additional charges incurred. Such charges usually occur when the skip is overloaded with regards to volume or weight, if the skip is unable to be placed or collected or if restricted waste streams are discovered in the skip.

Additional charges may be applicable when it comes to parking suspensions or skip permits but these should be discussed and agreed upon at the moment of ordering.

Generally speaking, skips are a very flexible rubbish removal option. There are, however, certain restrictions on what waste streams can go into each skip and around the mixing of certain waste types. Standard garden and construction waste streams are all suitable for a skip, although you must be mindful of the weight of bricks, rubble and soil. Standard household items as well as bulky and business waste can all be thrown into a skip.

There are certain items that cannot be removed by a skip without previous agreement: hazardous waste streams including freezers, monitors and TV’s, white goods and large electrical items, food waste, plasterboard and gypsum as well as solvents, chemicals and paints.

You can hire a skip for as long as you want, but the standard skip hire period is for 14 days. If you want to hire a skip for a longer period, you should let us know as early as possible so the arrangements can be made and additional charges can be processed. If you require a shorter skip hire period, then you can designate a day for collection when you place your order.

If you are looking to place your skip in an area which has permit-only parking, or if the parking space is Pay and Display then you are going to need a parking suspension from your local council in addition to a skip permit. Such parking suspensions are most commonly charged on a day-by-day basis and require the council to place a notice to suspend the parking space, which increases the cost considerably.
