Skip permits in Carlisle

Generally speaking, you will need a skip permit from Carlisle City Council if you do not have the space on your property meaning your skip has to be positioned on the road.

We can also offer specialist advice on your skip hire and advise if you will need a skip permit.

Parking suspensions in Carlisle

Construction sites, homes and offices all depend heavily on skip hire services in the North East and all across the UK.

Not every property has space for a skip though, especially those in more built-up areas. Clearabee can acquire a parking suspension on your behalf so you can make use of a skip even without the space.

FAQs

Carlisle hire FAQs

When choosing a skip there are plenty of things to think about, including what skip size and type is the most suitable, and where you plan to place it.

We have detailed the main skips with our FAQ section, but we can hire specialist skips on request.

View all FAQs

The ‘Midi’ skip is usually the smallest skip available in the UK at 4 cubic yards in size. ‘Builders’ skips are 6 to 8 cubic yards in size, whilst ‘Maxi’ and extra-large skips are 10 - 12 cubic yards.

The largest skips are specialist commercial hires which include lockable skips, enclosed skips and Roll On, Roll Off (RORO) containers. We can usually provide a quote for these within a couple of hours.

The following waste streams cannot be disposed of in a skip without previous arrangement from Clearabee:

Excessively weighty or dense waste

Any food wastage

Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment items and white goods

Hazardous waste streams

Plasterboard and gypsum waste

Solvents, chemicals and liquids (including paint)

There can be additional costs associated with skip hire so pre-planning is essential. These are:

Skip permits & parking suspensions - if you need to place your skip on the road you will require a skip permit. If you plan on using a permit-only or paid parking space, you will also require a parking suspension.

Prohibited items - hazardous waste streams cannot be disposed of in a skip and will incur a substantial additional cost. These include freezers, monitors and food waste.

Level loads - the load must be safe to transport by legal requirement. If you exceed the level line or weight restrictions, you might be charged extra for a wasted journey.

Wasted journeys - these may occur due to failed collections or deliveries when it is not our fault. Please make sure that there is access to the skip for both drop-off and collection.

You will need a skip permit in Carlisle if you are planning to place your skip on the public highway. There may also be additional requirements when it comes to signage and lighting. We can apply for the skip permit on your behalf and include any additional cost along with your order.

You will need a parking suspension as well as a skip permit if you plan to place your skip in a Pay and Display or a permit-only parking space. Parking suspensions need Carlisle City Council to suspend the parking space to stop others from parking there and this will be charged for each day that the space is out of service.
