More FAQs

A ‘Midi’ skip (4 cubic yards) is generally the smallest available. Going up in size are ‘Builders’ skips, which are 6 - 8 cubic yards. After this, there are the ‘Maxi’ and extra-large skips, which range from 10 - 12 yards. At the larger end of skips available are the Roll On, Roll Off (RORO) containers. These are specialist skips for large commercial projects and are usually priced by transport and tonnage rate.

There can be additional costs associated with skip hire, but these can be mitigated with planning.

Skip permits & suspensions may be needed if your skip needs to go on the public highway. You will also need to pay for a parking suspension if you plan on using a parking space that requires a permit.

Wasted journey charges usually occur as a result of failed collections and deliveries and will incur a cost when it is not our fault. Please ensure the skip can be dropped off and collected.

It is a legal requirement that the load is safe to transport so if you overfill your skip you could be charged extra or the collection may fail.

Prohibited items such as hazardous waste streams - which include fridges, tv and paint, etc - cannot be disposed of via a skip and could incur a substantial additional cost.

The following items are prohibited from skips unless there is prior agreement: Large electrical items and white goods, hazardous waste such as fridges, TV’s, fluorescent tubes, monitors, Plasterboard and gypsum waste, chemicals and solvents and food waste.

If your skip is going to be placed on the public highway, you will need a skip permit. Skip permits are issued by your local council and the costs and details can vary from area to area. In most cases we can provide the skip permit for you and pass on the additional cost.

If your property is in an area which has permit parking or if the skip is to be placed in a Pay and Display parking space, you will need a parking suspension as well as a skip permit. These suspensions are usually charged per day and require the council to place a notice to suspend the space which increases the cost considerably.
