‘Man and Van’ Rubbish Removal: How to Save Money

Read Time: 4 mins

When you are considering a waste clearance, it’s worth taking the time to look at which rubbish removals service will be the most cost-effective solution for you. The ‘Man and Van’ clearance service is Clearabee’s most popular service due to its rapid reaction, flexible and environmentally-friendly collections. But is it also the most cost-effective?

Throughout this series, we’ll share with you some tips and tricks on how to make the most of our rubbish removal services, starting with ‘Man and Van’ and where you may be able to save yourselves some money.

If you already know what you want from your ‘Man and Van’, then feel free to book your waste clearance now or give Clearabee a buzz. Otherwise, let’s have a look at how you can save some money.

‘Man and Van’ Clearances Scale in Price

Much like skip hire, the general rule with ‘Man and Van’ waste clearances is that the larger the volume of waste that is collected, the better value you get for your money. The call-out charge and the cost of transportation are the costliest aspect of ‘Man and Van’ clearances so once that initial charge has been paid out, the price doesn’t increase dramatically when the volume of waste goes up.

For example, the cost to remove 1 cubic yard of waste (which we equate to the size of 2 small domestic washing machines for ease) costs £84.99 to remove responsibly with Clearabee. But the volume of waste can be doubled without doubling the cost as 2 cubic yards of waste only costs £109.99 to clear. That’s just a difference of £25.

You can take a look at the pricing for more waste on our dedicated ‘Man and Van’ rubbish removal page but if you’re looking for rubbish removals then it makes more sense with more waste. If you’re organising a shed clearance, then perhaps see if there are items you can dispose of from your garage too, in order to save you booking a separate collection further down the line.

Clearabee’s Waste Calculator

Clearabee’s Waste Calculator is a useful tool for working out how much rubbish you want removing ahead of time in order to make sure you are getting the most out of your collection. If you are working to a budget you can add and remove items from your virtual basket to make sure you don’t exceed the money you’ve set aside.

You can select items from your garden, home or office before selecting your location and receiving your quoted price. For example, if you select a two-seater sofa, a single bed and a double wardrobe for collection in the Birmingham area, the waste calculator presents you with a couple of options so you are able to choose the most cost-effective one.

In this case, hiring a 6-yard skip will cost £210.24 whilst the ‘Man and Van’ removal service will cost £184.99 for the same collection. In this instance, not only is the ‘Man and Van’ option more cost-effective, but the cost also includes reasonable labour whereas you will have to fill the skip yourself.

What’s more, with any of Clearabee’s waste removal services, you not only receive a cost-effective service but you can be confident that you are satisfying your Duty of Care and having your rubbish removed responsibly.

The Cost of Fly-Tipping

Unfortunately, there are many unregistered and irresponsible rubbish removals companies who will be happy to undercut reputable companies, before taking your money and dumping your rubbish illegally. This not only has a detrimental impact on the environment, but could end up coming back to punish you, the customer.

Whereas these irresponsible companies may be cheaper, when the rubbish is reported it can be traced back, with the original producer of the rubbish able to be fined up to £50,000 or a 12-month prison sentence if convicted by a Magistrates Court. A Crown Court will deal with more serious cases and may issue an unlimited fine, 5 years imprisonment and may also charge for court costs and compensation.

Even on a smaller scale, local authorities can now issue fixed penalties of anywhere between £150 and £400 and the customer can even be fined £400 for using an unlicensed waste carrier who goes on to dump your waste illegally. In short, it’s not worth taking a chance.

Clearabee, on the other hand, are registered waste carriers and we supply a digital Waste Transfer Note once your waste has reached the local approved and audited Waste Transfer Station. This note details the waste that has been collected from you, the license details of the vehicle used and a description of what has been collected and where it has been transported to. This note satisfies your Duty of Care and proves that you have practiced due diligence. This means that you’re not contributing to the fly-tipping problem and that you can have complete confidence in Clearabee.
